Sewing has been on my mind a lot lately. Mostly because I've gotten a fair bit of fabrics which make me re-think about the possibilities of making clothes once again. Thinking about sewing is what I've been doing a lot; but I guess I should really get my hands on it to get some practice. I've lined up the projects with the fabric and have made a few skirts and shorts with mixed results, no chance to take modeled shots so these will come later.
My knitting pal, Eva, will be having her baby soon and I've planned a purple and beige set for her. Yep, she's the one who doesn't want anymore pink. I've not wanted to let the cat out of the bag but she doesn't mind knowing in advance. So here it is.
I've finally completed sewing the binding by hand and the result is much better than the one-step sewn on method. Although I think I've used the wrong colour thread, couldn't decide to use the backing fabric colour or the binding colour, and I've chosen to use the backing fabric.
Next will be the purple February Baby Sweater. The original plan is to use the Pagewood Farm Bluefaced Leicester yarn but thinking it might not be the right gauge, decided to knit together with 1 strand of Jaggerspun Zephyr Wool Silk and 2 strands of very soft and fine Chinese wool that Maryann gave me. The colours are merging well and the knitted fabric very soft and cushy. Only thing is that the gull lace is not showing up well so I decided to knit it in stocking stitch instead.
The big cone of Zephyr makes this project not so portable for the commute so I picked up an old WIP, the blue lacy crochet top. Please see here for the pattern page on ravelry. Stumbled on how to transit to the lace from the yoke and thanks to help knitting friends, Mindy and Vicky, I managed to figure a way out and here it is how it looks so far. I hope to finish it by the next meet up so I could show it to them. That is, if I don't run out of yarn. I've only got 3 balls of this Jaeger Trinity, a gift from the lovely Erin. Good thing this is top down so if the yardage is not too far off, I could just make it shorter.
And yes, I finished my mum's Vine Lace Vest but I gave it to my eldest sil instead because I'd to face the reality that Rowan All Seasons Cotton (which I recycled from Criss Cross) is far too thick for Singapore weather. I'll be on the look out for another pattern and another yarn for my mum. My sil is very happy with it and encourage me to finish more stuff that turns out 'unsuitable' for the intended recipient so that she could have them :).

They are all wonderful!

The baby quilt is very pretty. I love the FBS with all those pretty colors through it. Your SIL's sweater is absolutely beautiful, no wonder she wants you to make more unsuitable ones!

It's so nice to read about your wips and FOs. The colours on your feb baby sweater are so pretty and subtle. Oh you recycled your criss cross yarn. Come to think of it, I also do not wear my criss cross at all :)

Great job on everything. I have to say that the quilt is beautiful! I don't care for hand sewing the binding but I agree that is has the best results.
