So, I used up almost every bit of the Regia Bamboo yarn leftover from this pair of 64-st sock. Knitting together with a strand of Rowanspun 4 ply which itself is a leftover too, I made a pair of Saartje's booties (pattern in pdf). How can I not after seeing such cuteness like this, and this.

Each bootie used only 6g of Regia Bamboo and 3g of Rowanspun 4 ply. And I still ended up with leftovers so I made a matching hat top down until I have no more yarn to knit. I used 3mm needles for a nice firm gauge but the end products are not stiff at all. They will go to the Kisiizi Appeal organized by Brigid together with other such small items that I plan to make until the end July/early August.

I have half a Monkey to knit but then I started something else too. I'm knitting sil a prayer shawl using the Shetland Triangle pattern in Lorna's Laces sock yarn. I had wanted to knit it using double strands so that sil can use it as soon as possible as she keeps her vigil at nephew's bedside in the hospital. Now I decide to knit it in single strand, there will be more stitches hence more prayers. Although both my husband and I have not been very religious, but we're both praying hard for a smoother journey for little nephew. His surgery did not work out and the battle with cancer continues uphill.

On a lighter front, I added some books recently to my crafty library. Rowan's Story Book of Little Knits which Joy reviewed here. I absolutely adore Brambling too and Joy and I are going to knit it together later. Knitting Lingerie Style made its way to me too. Although at first glance, this book is not exactly my style but there are a few patterns in there that are wearable. Then there is Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing and the summer issue of Cotton & Paint. Both of which make me want to take out my sewing machine again.
What cute booties!
On a different note, I'm sorry to hear that your nephew's surgery was not as successful as hoped. Your family continues to be in my thoughts.

What a great way to use up sock yarn leftovers. The bamboo looks so different doubled up with a different yarn, very pretty.

I'm sorry to hear that your nephew's surgery didn't work out :( I'll think good thoughts for your family. Brambling is absolutely adorable, and Bestitched Diana and I have started scheming about getting that book here in the US...

I am so sorry your nephew's surgery didn't go well. Your sil is fortunate, though, to have you to share her troubles, and I know all your readers are thinking about her and you.

BTW, I'm just curious... what is the color of that Rowanspun that you used?

Oh these booties are so so cute ;)
And what an incredible work with your shawl.

I am sure your prayers and shawl will be well recieved. I have Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing book and it has persuaded me to tackle the sewing machine. Some of the projects are not useful but it's inspiring nonetheless.

I am so sorry to hear the news about your little nephew. What a terrible time to go through for your family, I cannot even imagine how your sil feels. Because as mothers, we always manage to put blame on ourselves. All my thoughts are with you. The booties are adorable!

I'm so upset to hear that the surgery didn't work out, and that your nephew's battle with cancer is such a difficult one. I will be praying for him and your family as well.

How unfortunate for your nephew. I hope his pain can be healed very soon, and your SIL will definately need that shawl to give her comfort. I adore the little booties that you knit up too, and the matching hat too. Keeping busy by knitting is good for stress too.

Thank you for sharing that pattern, it is exactly the bootie pattern I needed. I wanted to make my friend some booties that would stay on her 3 month old twins feet!

I read your brief comment about "Knitting Lingerie Style" by Joan McGowan-Michael and I wanted to just say that the author of this book came to our LYS in Santa Monica CA and brought some of the garments she designed that are in the book. Up close, they were works of art. She also said that the halter top and boy short on page 24 is the easiest pattern to knit in the book and the best place to start for a beginner lingerie knitter (me). I read your blog and I knit sock after sock because I'm obsessed with them but after going to the LYS and seeing her demonstration, I wondered if maybe I c-o-u-l-d knit one of her designs. (The easiest one naturally). Your socks are beautiful, by the way.
My best regards to you, Nancy

Sending you and your family strength and courage for your nephew's battle.
On another note, the booties are so CUTE, and now, I want to make one, too. BTW, I just email you the Japanese ones. Let me know if it's readable. Take care. M.
