Phew, husband's hat is finished. He's head will be well covered when he goes to Beijing this Wednesday. A relatively quick knit and he seems to like it. He was not without his cynical comments when I showed it to him but if he wore it around the house for half an hour before taking it off, I think he like it. And he's requesting I make another one for a dear family friend who's moved to Calgary.

Talking about hats, I think I found THE hat pattern for me. It's this cloche. It's crochet though.

And it's from this new Japanese book (isbn:4277171974). Newsboy cap fans, don't you just love this one? Although, once again, it is crochet.

I love this new book. There are 23 patterns in there and a good mix of both crochet and knit ones. There's a bit of everything, mostly accessories. There are patterns for colour work as well as textured knitting. Check out this pair of mittens. I think I'm going to make these too.

And this jacket. Should I just use the grey yarn I have stashed for my husband to knit this for myself instead?

And these pretty leg warmers although I won't be knitting them.

Young girls do wear crochet shawls but with a cute pin at the back. Look at the green dot.
Or with a big corset plus a smile.

Hmm, this honeycomb cables messenger bag.

And fair isle scarf which reminds me I have one to complete too from ages ago.

I like them all and I could go on and on and post all 23 photos here but I think I'd better stop here and go back to my holiday knitting. One week left before Christmas…
I love the textured mittens! I'd say go for the long coat - it looks cozy and so pretty!

The hat looks great! Love the cables.
And the projects from your new book look really good, too! I especially like the textured mittens, the white jacket, and the honeycomb bag.

Wow! That hat DID go quickly! It looks fantastic. I love all the patterns you've shown---you have great taste! It's not a matter of what you should knit, it's just a matter of what you should knit FIRST! :)

Your husband's Hat is a perfect fit! Beautiful job.
Thanks for your post on those japanese books --- I always wanted to peek to see if it's worth buying --- and your post totally convinced me to purchase it! Now that I ordered the book, I can't wait to take a look at all of them.

I think it's some sort of conspiracy. I just bought 2 Japanese craft books that I saw on someone else's blog and now here is another that's fabulous. And I crochet. You should too. Let it be your New Year's resolution. Much better than cutting back on chocolate and wine.

Love this book. I found a copy of it a Japanese bookstore in Portland. I don't understand the japanese but the illustrations and diagrams are great.
Once I get a couple UFO's off my needles then I'll dive right in.
The messenger bag might be first for me.

I loved the knitted mittens shown above from the Japanese Mitten Book, can I get direction in English from you to make some for the charity knit group I knit for?
