Arms, feet and mohair

I was seaming up Whisper the otehr night, got the right sleeve and right side done, tried it on and the sleeve was a good 2 inches too long. Drats, I always have sleeve problems. I really did measure the sleeve of my different jackets and my arms umpteen times before I decided when to shape the sleeve cap. So I went to bed grouchy, raking my brains what to do. Just before drifting off, I've decided to perform sleeve surgery, cut it off just below the sleeve cap, unravel it to the right length then graft together. The next morning, I took the half-sewn cardi out again, tried it on and the sleeve seems to have shrunk, it seems long but alright. Either I sleep-walked and did the sleeve surgery or my arm grew overnight. Oh well. I'll attend to the rest of the sewing tonight.

Lacysocks

First pair of socks for Socktober done. White school socks for Ji Yuan, not as knee high as I'd wanted, using the pattern from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks book. My girl's comment was, Mummy, they look like socks someone in a wheel chair will wear. Will you wear them, I asked and she said maybe. Umm. So I asked my husband what he thinks our daughter was trying to convey and he thought that Ji Yuan was trying to say the socks look like casts. They must have reminded her of the plaster on people who broke their legs and have to sit on a wheel chair. Oh well.

Poposocks

See in the photo another pair of feet that need to be clothed. So I asked the little one if she would like socks too, and she said yes, ok, 'Po Po' socks. It took me a while to figure that she wants purple socks. So here is the start of one po-po sock. I attempted to try it on Chung Yi and she yelled 'itchy, itchy'. I hope the Opal yarn will soften a bit after a good wash.

I've decided to part with the mohair in my stash. I love the romantic, halo-y effect created by mohair but I have to face the reality of my allergy. I don't think I would be able to wear any mohair, so no hope for Birch, River, Kiri, Butterfly for me. Do check them out if you're interested.

  • 6 balls of dusty pink Kanebo Heroine mohair, use it single strand like KSH or double strand to make a willowy top.
  • 4 balls of shocking pink Filatura Kid Mohair, just the right amount for a striking shawl or stole
  • 2 balls of green Anny Blatt Fine Kid, perfect for a beautiful shawl or stole or one of those trendy mohair spaghetti strap tank to be worn over a T.

If only I wasn't on yarn diet. *sigh*

I like the socks!

Ji Yuan's socks are so pretty and lacey. Hope she will grow to like it. I like the cute colours in the po-po socks. My daughter complains about itch with some yarns too.

Those lacy socks rock!

I am glad you joined Socktoberfest, Siow Chin! I love the completed pair! They are so pretty ;)

Those socks are great! Not in the least like plaster casts! (where do kids get their notions from?)

What beautiful socks :-) And I love the yarn as well, but I'm trying to decrease my stash first *sigh*

Too bad you're sucha pink girl and I'm such an orange and green girl. But I do do do so love the knee highs. Suddenly, I want towear ponytails. And giggle.

I like both socks, the lace one is so delicate and po-po looks so fun to knit.
Can't wait to see your Wisper, hope it will recover soon from the "surgery"!

That sock is sooo cute. I made a sweater out of the same yarn. at first i didn't like it too much...but the colors grew on me. :)

Cute socks! That reminds me I have to get the ones for my son done too! Glad to hear you won't need to do surgery on your sleeves; it was probably lopsided when you first tried it on.

The lace socks are gorgeous, but I love the po-po socks!

So cute! Those po-po ones are going to be fab. Are you using a pattern or making it up yourself?

I like the white socks. They are so high schoolish. It's funny that your daughter would think od them as casts....

I love the lace socks!! The white really accents the beautiful pattern. Your story about your daughters' impressions was too funny! I'm so glad I found your blog. The po-po socks look wonderful, too. What a great way to end Socktober! :-)

those are great! now I want some po po socks! hahaha - cute
