There's never short of things to learn in knitting, even for a simple, K2 P2 scarf. Here's the advice on gauge Kormew left in the comments:
"And if you knit really tightly, and end up with smaller stitches than what the "pattern" calls for (don't know if you used one), to get the same amount of fabric as someone who has bigger stitches, you will need more yarn. Smaller stitches means needing more stitches, while bigger stitches needs more yarn per stitch, but fewer stitches. If you're knitting for a specific length/size, bigger stitches tend to use less yarn."
Here's the orange for the day to keep the cranky at bay (thanks for the phrase, Ann!). The cranky c'est moi. I've been made so by Chung Yi who has the potential of becoming a very good soprano when she grows up. She refused to sleep for the past few nights and was yelling at the top of her voice at close to midnight, "Go, go, go". She wanted to go out of the front door. Luckily, Ji Yuan didn't feel like joining in the chorus and preferred to sleep like a sack of potatoes no matter which octave her sister chose to sing.
I have to confess I'm a follower, two knitalongs joined: bear-along and FBS Redux. I cannot resist the temptation of a cute teddy and plunged into the bear-along. The pattern I'm using is from this Japanese pattern book, Kussy's simple sweaters & knit goods and the page out of the book (left photo) is what the finished teddy will look like. Don't know why, my one-ear teddy head is looking like it belongs to an angry mouse. The challenge would be to sew the ear symmetrically. You will notice that the eyes are already mismatched.
I don't think the bear looks angry. He's quite cute.
I love how the blanket squares look when they are attached in a larger square. The colors are great!

I fully agree with the gauge/yarn tip. I knit my socks at a gauge of 10 stitches per inch and I use much more yarn than the pattern typically calls for.

I think the bear is cute, too!

Love that luscious orange! It is so true -- it keeps the cranky at bay. My daughter took a course once that said that orange brings on insanity, that they don't paint walls in mental health facilities orange for that reason -- well, I beg to differ (although maybe it's all to do with the SHADE of orange) because knitting in these colors just makes me feel so HAPPY! (could it really be insanity, though??? Please don't break it to me if it is!)

I am also interested to know besides the amount of yarns, if the tight knitting hand has an effect on the feel of touch of the FO. Would tight knitting make the fiber less soft? I am not sure what kind of knitter I am ...

I haven't thought of keeping the cranky at bay; I usually attack a pint of frozen yogurt (ha ha)! Your bear is cute; I think the lopsidedness gives him character.

Don't pass your judgement until the bear's finally done. She'll just display her distinct style and attitude once you are done with her. Mine's to be done by tomorrow *hopefully*. :)

I stumbled across your blog while I was doing some online research. I'm a total novice, but, for what it's worth, I think the little bear is really cute and would appeal to children.
